Steamcmd to download mods

I bought a game (stellaris if that is important) on gog and since a lot of mods are only available on steam, I would like to download the mods from steam. As far as I know this is not possible without a bit of work, please correct me if there is an obvious/easy way. Currently I'm trying to use steamcmd (on windows 10). Here is what I did:

Problem 1 (solved via discord) adding 19 mods to the steam workshop page after server installation - no mod was downloaded. Problem 2 (open) SteamCMD downloads the mods to: /home/AMP/.ampdata/instances/ 

A this point the tool will automatically install and update SteamCMD, which will then download the game server program as well as any mod you have specified.
